With the support of Li & Fung Foundation, Department of Sociology, Peking University, has started the practice research project of “Empowerment and Assets Construction of Inclusive Rural Communities”. Based on the research on the development of Rural communities in Baishui County, Shanxi and social intervention, this project focuses on probing into the relations among economic empowerment, social empowerment and Integrated development of rural communities.


Contents :

By cooperating with Baishui Disabled Person’s Federation and social organizations in Shaanxi Province, and relying on the mutual assistance group for rural disabled, this project has set up two comparatively mature community development centers for disabled persons in the two administrative villages, they are respectively Community Development Center for the Disabled in Fanjiazhuo village, Baishui County, and Peng Ya Village, Zongmu town. Social services for people with disabilities and their families, such as community rehabilitation, livelihood development, parent-child education and community integration are provide in these two organizations. The Community Development Center for the Disabled has provided a series of rehabilitation and livelihood services, mainly includes:
  • To provide basic accessibilities and develop rehabilitation training for the poor disabled, so that their health can be controlled properly and their living ability can be increased.
  • To provide elderly, children and family social work service regularly for creating a successfully integrated rural community.

Objectives:
  • To rethink, break the initial thought on poverty Relief and Development, and probe into the model of anti-poverty development based on inclusive assets construction. 
  • To contribute to the exploration of anti-poverty theory and rural communities in China.
