The Conferences on Food Sovereignty



Foods, are the fundamental daily necessities and public goods for people. When foods are changed to commercial products, the production system, circulation system and marketing system aimed at accumulating assets and profiting will become a cradle of frequent food safety incidents. The problem of food unsafety means public general producers lose the autonomy on production, the consumers lose the right of choosing, while the governments lose independent planning, as well as the ability of regulating and protecting on foods. This indicates the loss of food sovereignty.

In a view of this, in August 2013, the students, teachers, NGO workers, media workers, civil practicers and so on, organized the Network of Food Sovereignty.

With the support of Li & Fung Foundation, the Network of Food Sovereignty cooperates with Department of Applied Social Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and raises people’s awareness on food sovereignty, though the series of activities of “Theme Investigation ”and “Food Sovereignty” organized annually.

 
Objectives: 
  • To advocate the mutual cooperative relationship between producers and consumers, and the protection of people and country.
  • To encourage the people to pay attention to food sovereignty.

  • The conference for "Food Sovereignty and Protection of the Chinese Soybean Industry"(October 11 to 12, 2014)
  • The conference for Food Sovereignty, Collective Economy and Ecological Agriculture (October 24 to 25, 2015) 
  • Food Sovereignty: The Conference on Ecological Agriculture and Cooperative Economy (December 3 to 4, 2016)
